Trump Strikes Syrian Arab Army

While Xi Jinping Visits US

The US missile attack on an airfield in Syria during the Sino-US summit in Florida was an allegedly pre-planned action.

It gives signal to China that the US is ready to play the role of a global policeman, be more active on the Korean Peninsula and in the South China Sea region.

That is according to Russian experts who interviewed with Sputnik.

The Russian experts’ community also believes that the US made a wrong decision by striking Syria against the background of the meeting in Florida, as China will not succumb to pressure from the US.

“It is a sign for Xi Jinping — look, we used force in Syria and we can use it elsewhere. For example, be more active in the South China Sea. I think that such logic accompanies these two events — the bombing and the summit,” Russian military expert Vladimir Evseev said.

in Syria

He further said that the US has sent a signal showing its readiness to use armed forces, if necessary, in order to protect American national interests.

“The strike is a provocation. It is very similar to a pre-prepared special operation, which, of course, was aimed for the Chinese leader. Most likely, this was the main goal and chemical weapons are just an excuse,” Evseev said.

Russia says its tie with US
is damaged after US struck Syria

On April 6, Donald Trump confirmed that he gave an order to strike a Syrian Air Force airfield, allegedly from where, he said, an attack was carried out using chemical weapons against civilians several days ago.

The coincidence of the US attack on the Syrian Air Force with the summit in Florida, according to an expert at the Institute of the Far East, Alexander Lomanov, looks like a Chinese saying: “kill a chicken to frighten a monkey.”

“Trump is now trying to revive the authority of the US by saying that he is not afraid of anything, he is ready to strike everywhere. Despite the fact that the blow occurred in Syria, after all, the main problem for the United States is the DPRK,” Lomanov said.

The expert said that all of this looks like a very flat and very intrusive demonstration of Trump's determination to apply the same method of action in North Korea.

It may be aimed at putting pressure on President Xi Jinping so that he in turn tries to prevent an escalation of tensions in the Korean Peninsula by liquidating the regime in Pyongyang.

“I believe that Trump had such logic. But I'm afraid that none of this in reality will happen. The demonstration of force in Syria will not stir the Chinese leadership to surrender over North Korea, as Trump had hoped for,” the analyst said.

The analyst said that in general Trump is a very good businessman, but, in extreme cases, he can also be a policeman.

According to a military expert, Vasiliy Kashin, “The consequences of this step gradually will clarify Trump's policy towards Bashar al-Assad.

In addition to excluding him as a player in solving the Syrian problem, the United States also tried to demonstrate to Russia and the international community its determination, independence and dominance in resolving the Syrian crisis.”

In this matter Washington claims to have some cooperation and dialogue with Russia on combating terrorism, but now it is clear that although the Trump administration might still be looking forward to the development of cooperation with Russia it claims to have a dominant role in this cooperation.

“Against this background, I think it will be difficult for Bashar al-Assad to play his role in the Syrian settlement,” Kashin concluded.

‘Why would Assad attack
civilians not military?
It’s simply irrational’
– U.S. Senator

Syrian opposition claimed Tuesday forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad had used a chemical gas on people in the northwestern province, killing nearly 80 and injuring 200.

Assad argued his government has no chemical weapons after agreeing to have them destroyed in 2013. He also ruled out having used chemicals against his own people.

The opponents of President Bashar al-Assad have claimed that the Syrian Arab Army had used chemical weapons against civilians intentionally, something Syrian authorities strongly deny.

No evidence has been provided to support the claims.

Benjamin Netanyahu

IS IN BED  WITH

The Trump Administration

Almost Literally

When politicians are suspected of having conflicts of interest, they are often said to be "in bed" with other individuals or institutions.[1]

In the case of the Trump administration and Israel, it's hardly a metaphor — the Israeli prime minister actually has slept in the childhood bedroom of the man appointed to oversee U.S. policy on Israel-Palestine.[1]

Donald Trump has installed his 36-year-old son-in-law Jared Kushner, a wealthy real estate heir, as a leading adviser on Middle East policy. The president promised his son-in-law will "do peace" in the region.[1]

by the "President Bannon" Meme:
A Closer Look

Where exactly Kushner's political sympathies lie could hardly be any clearer.[1]

His family has long donated to pro-Israel groups, and a new report in the New York Times, euphemistically titled "For Kushner, Israel Policy May Be Shaped by the Personal," casually mentioned hard-line right-wing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once even stayed in his home.[1]

Trump Aide Says Bannon and Priebus on Their Way out of White House

Kushner's ties to Netanyahu go back to his teenage years. He "knew the prime minister, who was friendly with his father, a real estate developer and donor to Israeli causes," the Times noted.[1]

It added, "Netanyahu had even stayed at the Kushners' home in New Jersey, sleeping in Jared's bedroom. (The teenager moved to the basement that night.)"

The ties go deeper still. [1]

Kushner directed a family foundation that gave money to illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which were constructed in flagrant violation of international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention. [1]

President Trump himself previously donated $10,000 to the illegal Israeli settlement Beit El.[1]

David Friedman, who previously served as Trump's real estate lawyer and is now Trump's pick for U.S. ambassador to Israel, has far-right pro-Israel ties.[1]

He is a staunch supporter of illegal settlements and president of the American Friends of Bet El Institutions. Jared Kushner's parents, Charles and Seryl, are members of Bet El Institutions' founding board of trustees.[1]

A 2007 "list of millionaires" Netanyahu compiled of potential donors even included Charles Kushner's name near the top. And the links go on.[1]

In 1999, Netanyahu visited Charles and spoke at his office, before playing soccer and eating lunch at a New Jersey school named after the Kushner family. [1]

During the meal, the Israeli leader was joined by Jared's younger brother Joshua. [1]

This eventually led Murray Kushner to sue his brother Charles for, as the Times said, "misusing the family company’s funds by paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees to the Israeli leader, among other high-profile figures."[1]

Jared Kushner "holds strong views about the state of Israel," the U.S. newspaper of record put it mildly.

The millionaire's pro-Israel politics were made clear in the New York Observer, a newspaper previously owned by Kushner. [1]

In a July article stumping for his father-in-law, cozily titled "The Donald Trump I Know," Kushner stressed, "The from-the-heart reactions of this man are instinctively pro-Jewish and pro-Israel." [1]

He noted that at a campaign event in New Hampshire, Trump emphasized in an unscripted moment, "Israel is a very important ally of the United States and we are going to protect them 100 percent."[1]

Seth Meyers Claims Credit for Trump Giving Steve Bannon the Boot

Journalist Philip Weiss, co-founder and editor of the news website Mondoweiss, which provides critical coverage of Israel's violations of international law and Palestinian rights, published an article in January reflecting on his past experience with Kushner. [1]

Weiss, who was a columnist at the Observer when Kushner bought the paper in 2006, claims he was fired for speaking out against Israel's oppression of the Palestinians.[1]

Reflecting on his interactions with Kushner, Weiss recalled, "[They] were limited, but they don't give me hope about his ability to achieve peace in the Middle East. He lived in a deeply Zionist-patriarchal mental space then; I never saw him take a step out of it."[1]

Israeli PM coming under fire for praise of Donald Trump Mexican border wall plan

Kushner was just 26 years old when Weiss was let go, but his pro-Israel views date back even further.[1]

In his schooling, Kushner and his peers were told to draw maps of Israel from memory and refer to the Israeli-occupied Palestinian West Bank as "Judea and Samaria," a tactic Israel and its supporters use to whitewash the fact that the land's inhabitants are indigenous Arabs who have lived under Israeli military occupation for nearly 50 years.[1]

As for those inhabitants, "In his classes, Palestinians were regarded at a distance, in part as security threats who committed acts of terrorism," the Times reported. [1]

Some teachers claimed Palestinian culture was fabricated; there was virtually no discussion of the illegal occupation; and students could not walk the halls "without seeing the flags of Israel and Israeli historical figures and how the kids celebrate Israeli holidays."[1]

The newspaper also pointed out that Kushner "has no experience in government or international affairs.[1]

Noam Chomsky: Trump Might Be a Disaster,
but His Team Is Ready to Loot America

His up-close exposure to the Arab world amounts to little more than trips to a handful of Persian Gulf countries and a star-studded jaunt to Jordan."[1]

It is not clear if Kushner has ever visited any part of the Palestinian territories, and the White House would not comment on the issue.[1]

Kushner is already working with President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu to build an alliance with Sunni-majority Arab countries, based on shared opposition to Iran, a target of increasingly aggressive and hawkish U.S. foreign policy.[1]

The Trump administration has made it absolutely clear that it is going to let Israel continue violating international law, building new settlements and colonizing Palestinian land.[1]

And American taxpayers will continue bankrolling Israel's crimes, as every previous U.S. presidential administration has ensured.[1]

Ron Dermer, Israel's ambassador to the U.S., is optimistic. Reflecting on Kushner, Dermer said, "He's someone who, in my interactions with him, has really been able to deliver."[1]

Palestinians are dismayed, to put it mildly. In regard to Kushner, politician Mustafa Barghouti lamented, "There is no indication he is interested in hearing from the other side."[1]

US to Putin:

Sanctions to Remain in Place

Until Crimea Occupation Ends

Patrick Goodenough

February 22, 2017

CNSNews.com) – The Trump administration threw its support unequivocally behind Ukraine Tuesday in that country’s ongoing conflict with Russia, informing the Kremlin that U.S. sanctions will remain in place until Russia ends its occupation of Crimea.[2]

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley told the U.N. Security Council that the U.S. does believe a better relationship with Moscow is possible, but not at the expense of the security of friends and allies in Europe.[2]

“That is why the United States calls on Russia to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she said. “That is why we continue to urge Russia to show a commitment to peace – by fully implementing the commitments under the Minsk agreements and ending its occupation of Crimea.”[2]

Haley said the U.S. and European Union were in lockstep over keeping sanctions in place until the Minsk agreements – ceasefire deals negotiated between Ukraine’s government and Russian-backed separatists in the country’s east – were fully honored by Russia.[2]

In addition, she said, “our separate Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns control over the peninsula to Ukraine.”[2]

Tuesday’s meeting on “conflicts in Europe,” which was chaired by Ukraine – a temporary member that holds the council’s rotating presidency this month – opened with somber tributes to Russian ambassador to the U.N. Vitaly Churkin, who died suddenly on Monday, aged 64.[2]

Churkin was widely viewed, even by those opposed to Russian policies, as an effective and personable defender of President Vladimir Putin’s administration.[2]

“I did not have the honor of working with Vitaly for very long, but Vitaly’s diplomacy will be long remembered,” said Haley. [2]

“He was a fierce advocate for his country. He was a consummate diplomat. He was brilliant, wise, gracious, and funny. [2]

He could spot even the narrowest opportunities to find a compromise. Having spent the early part of his career in the United States, Vitaly also recognized the value of closer ties between our two countries.”[2]

Churkin’s diplomatic energies in recent years were directed in large part to fending off criticism of his government’s policies in Syria and in Ukraine.

After Ukraine’s Kremlin-backed president Viktor Yanukovich fled Kiev amid huge anti-government protests in February 2014 and fled to Moscow, Russia backed an armed separatist movement in eastern Ukraine, and after a referendum not recognized by the West, annexed Crimea.[2]

In her remarks Tuesday, Haley called Russia’s attempts to “destabilize” Ukraine the most acute challenge facing Europe, and said the U.S. would not waver in its support for NATO, “the strongest alliance in history.”[2]
